Jewelry Questions & Answers
What is the difference between yellow gold and white gold?
Both are gold alloys. Other metals affect their color and working properties. White gold is often rhodium plated; its finish may need maintenance over time.
Is platinum the same as white gold?
No. Platinum is a different metal, naturally white and denser than gold alloys. Ask our jewelers to compare feel, maintenance and design suitability.
What does 14K or 18K mean?
Karat describes gold purity out of 24 parts: 14K is approximately 58.3% gold and 18K is 75% gold. Carat, spelled with a C, measures gemstone weight.
Can you redesign an inherited ring?
Bring the piece and any documentation to the showroom. We can assess its stones and metal, discuss your ideas and explain options for preserving sentimental details.
Can every ring be resized?
Not every material, setting or design can be resized in the same way. An in-person inspection is the best way to assess the possibilities.
Does the ring studio show an exact finished ring?
The studio creates a visual design concept. Final dimensions, stone selection, setting construction and availability are confirmed with the jeweler.
Do you offer appraisals and consignment?
Contact us about appraisal needs and our estate jewelry consignment program. We can explain the process, required information and current terms.
How should I clean my jewelry?
Cleaning methods vary by gemstone, treatment, setting and metal. Ask us before using chemicals, steam or ultrasonic cleaning, especially for pearls, fragile gems and antique pieces.
